The story of our Cancer Hospital is scripted on the lines of "Service for a cause". It is the tale of the realization of the vision of our Managing Director, Dr. Sandip Madhwapathy; a Cancer Surgeon who is best known for his whole hearted dedication to providing relief to those affected by the dreaded ailment.
The tryst with destiny began when Dr. Sandip Madhwapathy was working at the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, Mumbai, in the early days of his career. His comprehensive training encompassed aspects beyond mere diagnosis and treatment. Working with the best facility in the country, the most important thing he imbibed was the philosophy of the organization and not just the technicalities.

The aspirations took shape in the form of a small 7-8 bed setup Belgaum Oncological Centre at Samsukha Complex, Khadebazar, Belgaum. The facility was inaugurated in 1994 by Dr. D.S.Rao, Cancer Surgeon and Director, Tata Memorial Centre (TMC). The inception was a herculean task considering the fact that the ailment has extremely low social acceptability and most consider it improbable that the treatment is possible in a sparingly equipped town like Belgaum. Rising above the social taboo and the technological limitations was what made the experience both challenging and worthwhile.
At the onset, Dr. Madhwapathy sought to reach out to areas that had a dire need for the facility of surgical oncology, but access none. The self motivating mission took him to places like Ghataprabha, Gokak, Mahalingpur, Banhatti, Terdal, Bailhongal, Chikkodi, Sankeshwar, Ankola, to name a few. The journey of relentless effort, determination, dedication and self belief was both demanding and fulfilling. The satisfaction over the accomplishments along with the comforting smiles of those treated, made the effort worthwhile.
